Registration Information, Policies, and Payments

Five Good Reasons to Choose Douglas Ballet Academy:

1. We are an established dance school with a respected position in the community.

2. We offer a positive and supportive atmosphere for students of all ages and abilities within a family style environment.

3. We aim to develop the whole person not just the dancer.

4. We have a serious but not overly exclusive attitude to dance in all its forms.

5. Our teachers are qualified, professional, and friendly.

Our school year is 10 months: September until June. The year is divided into four terms.
Tuition payments are due on or before each of these dates:
September (at the time of registration), November 15th, February 1st, April 15th.
Post-dated cheques are required at time of registration. There is a $30.00 charge for all NSF cheques. Tuition fees are not refundable after each quarter has begun. Payment can also be made by credit card.
If fees are more than one month late, 10% will be added to the term payment. Tuition will not be refunded after each term has begun.
Separate cheques are required for lesson fees, examination fees, festival fees, & costume fees. Absolutely no refund can be issued on festival or examination fees. Classes cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances (eg. snow) will not necessarily be rescheduled unless more than 2 are missed per term.
Students are required to make a full year's commitment as the program is ongoing. All programs are pro-rated based on the full year- not by the individual class or the month. Please contact us for more information on tuition fees.

The registration/administration fee per family is $30.00 for the year. It is due upon registration with the school and is non refundable.
Costume fees are applicable to all students of the school. Costumes are for the June production and are due November 1st. Fees are $45.00 for preschool students, $50 for students 13 years and younger and $55 per student 14 and older per class they are attending. Each student performs in one dance per class that they attend.

Family and Referral Discounts: There is a 10% discount for 2 or more students from the same family. We also offer $10.00 off one quarterly payment per family for referring a new student who enrolls at Douglas Ballet. Students taking more than 7 hours each quarter may take additional classes free of charge.
Teacher Assistant Program: Students aged 10 and over may apply to be a teacher's assistant. If accepted, students will receive an additional 10% off quarterly fees. Maximum allowable discount of 20% for 2 classes. Teaching assistants must commit to one hour per week for a year.
Scholarships and Awards: Certain students who show determination and dedication to the art of dance are rewarded at the end of the year in June with a DBA Scholarship or trophy, funded by the Advocates of Dance.
High School Credit Program: Students successful in Royal Academy or ISTD ballet exams above Grade 4 are eligible for high school credits towards Grade 11 and 12.

Our shows are story productions and are a unique feature of our school in which all students are expected to participate. Costumes are chosen to accompany the story.
